10:30AM Community Celebration
Our pastor, Dr. Mike Burr, and other speakers inspire sacred living with their messages. Talented musicians bring piano, songs, guitar, drums, harmonica, and chorus to the celebration. There’s time to seek stillness and connect with community. We hope you will feel welcome and visit more than once to experience the diversity of our community celebrations.
Children
participate with the community in intergenerational songs and stories.
Then from 10:45-11:30 AM volunteers provide activities for children
inspired by our spiritual curriculum called “A Joyful Path” and
commitment to community service.
Food Bank and Soup Lunch Sunday -- 1st Sunday of every month after the Community Celebration
On the first Sunday of each month, we do a Soup Lunch after the celebration service. Also we ask for food donations into the Food Bank to provide nourishment for those in need. The Soup Lunch is an old and treasured tradition at Koinonia, and one of its purposes is to raise money for special needs in the community. Donations are appreciated. Come and enjoy everyone's company, a good bowl of soup, and fellowship. If you're visiting on the first Sunday of the month, you're welcome to come and have soup with us ! Come join us !
Music, Choir and Musicians --
One of the great joys at Koinonia is its music, and it is heard everywhere, from the Sunday Community Celebrations through the gatherings and meetings during the week, and all the way to the hills of El Salvador as the social building work groups continue their activities and efforts.
The Celebrations are blessed with several pianist musicians, who take turns with each other and the folk singers at playing each Sunday. All of the musicians lead the way through the musical pieces and songs with the people.
A folk music group of guitars, harmonica and voices is led by Steve Allerton, who loves the music and life of social activist Pete Seeger, and leads the group and congregation with folk songs of great beauty and inspiration to the people of Koinonia.
The Koinonia Choir is led by director Linda Koeman, who is a trained singer and choir director with years of experience in the GJ schools music program. Singing in the choir is of course open to everyone, and all are invited and embraced in the group. Rehearsals are generally held at Linda's home on Wednesday evenings, and are most enjoyable and joyous.
Solo singers and instrumentalists often grace the Celebrations with beautiful music as well. Music is an integral part of life at Koinonia, and all of it is open to all to help with spiritual growth and process. Come join us !
